牛津英语 7B Unit 3
Reading
A lucky escape
Characters: Justin and Paul, the twin brothers; Susan, their friend; three men in police uniform; a policeman.
(Justin and Paul are at their home. The telephone rings. It is their friend, Susan. She lives nearby in Hill Building. She is shouting.)
Susan: Help! Help! There are some robbers in the building!
Justin: We must go and help her! Let's drive to Hill Building!
(Justin and Paul drive to Hill Building quickly. They get out of their car at once. Three men in police uniform are running out of the building.)
Paul: Excuse me, sir. Do you see the robbers?
(The men do not answer. They just push Justin and Paul into the back of a green van and drive away.)
Justin: These men aren't policemen. They're the robbers.
Paul: Yes, they are! Where do they want to take us to? We must get out of here!
(Paul tries to open the door but falls. He uses a knife and tries again. It works.)
Paul: Let's run to the police station on Fourth Street.
Justin: Yes, but they'll see us. Shall we take different routes?
Paul: OK! I'll go along Sixth Street. Then I'll turn left into Park Road and turn right into Fourth Street to the police station.
Justin: OK. I'm going to take another route. I’ll turn right into Seventh Street and turn left into Park Road. Then I’ll go to the police station.
(The van stops at the traffic lights. Justin and Paul jump out of the van and run away quickly.)
(Justin and Paul meet at the police station. They are reporting to a policeman.)
Justin: There are three robbers. They're running away from Hill Building.
Paul: They're driving away in a green van. (Suddenly, Paul stops talking. He is surprised to see the three men in the police station.) But, why are they here?
Policeman: (stops taking notes and smiles) Do you mean these three men? The back door of their van was open. We are asking them about that.
(Justin and Paul laugh happily.)
