I could have finished my self-reflection last weekend, but the math classes and exercises _____ all my spare time.

C. had taken up D. had been taking up

这道题目为什么不能选C呢

根据时态last weekend可知是上周数学课和练习占用了空闲时间，所以应该用过去式，选择B。
C选项是过去完成时，表示的是过去的过去的发生的事情，很显然与last weekend不符合。
关于时态的题目，做的时候根据关键词来做会比较容易。
