Kingfishers are small, brightly-coloured birds like the parrots or parakeets. They are about 15 to 20 centimetres long. Their feathers are greenish-blue, white and dark orange in colour. Their bills and feet are reddish-brown.
Kingfishers make very loud and shrill noises. They make their nests in burrows which are holes in the ground or in trees. Their eggs are round and shinning white like small marbles. Most kingfishers live near the river or the sea. They are generally seen perched on an overhanging branch near a stream, ready to dive into the water to catch their prey.
