答：莫名其妙的题句，不知所云，查网络知改自下句：
Each person at the party was required to talk to other friends to find out if they would buy one of the novels if it were printed.
译：聚会上的第一个人都要求与别的朋友交谈以弄清楚，如果这些小说中的某一篇出版的话，他们会不会买。
析：从it were printed 可知，只有虚拟语气的条件句中才会it 后用were,所以原题句肯定是B。
如果原题句改成was,就BCD都可以了。
倒是前一个if, 如不是出题都有意为之，用whether更好。
但我估计楼主的答案可能是C，因为网上有这样的句子（让人翻译的），那肯定是错的！
