The Spring Festival is a traditional festival in China, It is also called Lunar Festival. We Chinese called the festival "Nian" There is a story behind this festival "Nian". Long time ago, there was a monster called "Nian". The moster came to the village once a year at the same time to attack the villagers. The villagers had to do something to protect themselves, so they burnt bamboos to make "pop" sounds to scare away the monster. Since then, the villagers burnt bamboos once a year and set that day as a new festival "Nian". Today, the Spring Festival is a day to celebrate and get together with families. We eat dumplings in the mid night and cheer for the new year.

The Spring Festival is a very important festival in China. It’s on the first day of the first lunar month (阴历一月的第一天). And it's also my favorite festival, especially when I was a child. When the day before Spring Festival, every family member will get together, have a big meal. There has firecrackers, dumplings, chicken... On the day of Spring Festival, everybody wearing the new clothes. First of all, they all sitting together for breakfast. After the breakfast, children will get money from their parents, or relatives. The Spring Festival is about 15 days long. During this 15 days, people will go around and visit relatives and friends.
Now, because the Chinese life is better and better, more and more people celebrate western holidays, such as Christmas Day, April Fool's Day. No matter which holiday people celebrate, I think the most important thing is the people’s feeling when they celebrate holidays.
