Recently there having been many rumors, some of which are thrilling and weird, some dressed up as genuine ones, some deliberately mystifying, they have caused more or less an up roar in the public opinion. Although many measures, including twitter’s turning comments off, have been taken to purge these rumors, it still needs forward management to limit the spread of rumor, so as to narrow down the room for rumors.
Nowadays, the wide spectrum of information, the daily-changing modern communication means, making everyone a loudspeaker, have marked that a new era has come. In this era, people transit from the simple audience to information-maker, audience and information-spreader, all rolled into one, which has brought managers and people great challenge. Why rumors have room to survive? First, it is because people do not know whether the information is rumor or not; second, although people are suspicious about the information, it serves their curiosity; third, the information is not involved with their own interests. People would rather believe it is true. Thus rumors have come to life, and they not only cause public confusion to some extent, but also give rise to riot or blind action. Facing threats and damages brought by rumors, government at all levels should be encouraged to take active inductivity and take effective measures, which lie in firstly, set up regular information issue mechanism, which helps to form psychological expectation of asking, watching, and waiting for government’s response; secondly, set up emergent information issue mechanism. Whenever there is rumor coming up, nip it in the bud; thirdly, guide social mind to the more positive side, and build up public confidence in government’s administration.
