During this winter vacation I had the opportunity to read the book “Gone with the Wind.” It is a great novel written by American author Margaret Michell in the 1930s. It’s a story about southern living in the US during the Civil War. The story depicts the raise and fall of several wealthy families who owned plantations and slavers in Georgia, their love affairs and their pride as the well-to-do southerners. I especially like Scarlett O’Hara, who was a strong-willed southern woman. She was brought up in a rich family who owned many slaves and a large plantation. However, as the Yankee army from the Union marching down the South, the southerners lost their cause. O’Hara’s plantation was eventually destroyed by the war. But as a strong woman, she refused to go hungry. I was especially touched by the words she said in the final chapter of the book, with great hope, “tomorrow is another day.” (156词)
