前半句是过去时态，为什么后半句用了现在分词，是一种什么语法吗？
2.pass on 什么意思？

句中第二个that在这里表示什么？它是否和第一个that一样表示第二个定语从句？如果是，可以把两句定语从句合并在一起吗？

1句表示动词的形式。在汉语中动词没有词形变化，而在英语中，几个动词如果不并列，就要使用非谓语形式。holding his basket和tears falling down his face都作stood的伴随状语，前者称为现在分词短语，后者称为独立主格结构。该句也可改写为Mark stood there and held his basket. His tears fell down his face.
2传授，传递
3句是两个并列的宾语从句。第一个that可省略，第二个that不省去，因为省去后结构就会产生混淆。不能合并在一起。
