A rail journey

I got on the train 20 mimuntes earlier because it was the first time I took a train for more than 20 years. I made sure that I was not going to miss it. That was also my last minute decision, which I thought it would be a bit too long of a journey for me travelling by car from London to Scotland alone.

I was travelling in third class, to save money of course but also because third class has tables between all opposite seats, where the first and second classes haven’t. A long journey like that, which I would have to go online to pass my time. I brought my laptop with me, so I need a table for comfort to use it. That’s why I chose to travel by third class.

The train took off on time. At first, I took my time watching out of the window enjoying the passing views and sceneries, but of course in the first part of the journey, the train only went passing buildings and all I can see was chimney pots, bustling shopping parades and commercial areas. Once it got into the countryside, things changed immediately into a beautiful green openness, there were not so many houses and far in between.

I haven’t been so relaxed in a journey for however long, which I couldn’t even remember. When travelling in a car particularly if you are the driver, you simply just couldn’t enjoy the scene like a rail traveller does, because of the traffics nowadays. There is no luxury of taking your eyes away from what is ahead of you.

When I had enough of sightseeing, then I took out my laptop and put it in front of me on the table. I went online and enjoy my usual hobby, surfing and visited baidu for a couple of hours. At last, I started to feel a bit tired, so I shut down my laptop and took a nap. Oh, believe me, that wasn’t a nap at all but rather more like a long sleep. When I woke up, the train was only about 50miles from Edinburgh. I went to the buffet car and bought myself some snacks and a can of soft drink.

In no time at all, the train had pulled up at the Edinburgh Central Station, half of my journey had completed (the next half would be on my way home). That was a wonderful experience travelling by train, and really enjoyable. May be I will have to do it soon again and more often from now on.
