请问一道SAT一道语法题，谢谢大家啦！！

The labor union is negotiating a contract with the hospital (that) will satisfy the demands of the workers and be acceptable to all levels of management.这里 that为什么不算指代不清？能指代the hospital 吗？还是因为hospital 是一个状语中的所以不能指代？

that后是一个定语从句，that此处是属于关系代词，用来指代先行词a contract。一般而言定语从句往往放在先行词既被定语从句修饰的名词之后，但有时候为了平衡句子结构也会出现先行词与定语从句分离的现象，如：
The factory is to be closed where i work.我工作的工厂即将关闭。==The factory where i work is to be closed.
The man is in the hospital who was hit by my car. 被我车撞的那个人现在在医院里。
究竟定语从句是指代那个名词，你可以根据局句子意思去判断。就你所问的这句话表面上看起来先行词特别像hospital，但根据and be acceptable to all levels of mangement,可知be acceptable的主语只能是contract而不是hospital了。并不是因为hospital作状语就不是先从此，只要是名词或代词基本就能作先行词，就可以有定语从句。如：
I am in the hopsial where you were born.我在你出生的那家医院。

谢谢你，但是这个题从意思上理解that指代的是contract, 但是如果SAT当中会考指代不清，不懂这里为什么算是指代不清？谢谢！

这里按句意，明显的，that要指代contract。
一般按照语法规则，我们要把句子写成a contract (that will...) with the hospital...
为什么没有这样写？因为这样写contract和修饰它的with the hospital相隔太远了 读起来非常麻烦 句子结构也不够平衡 所以英语中常常将过长的修饰语置后。看句子意思，that是不可能指代hospital的。
做语法的时候，一定要关注句子想要表达什么。
