如果想说“我大学毕业后已经过了三年”，不能用 before，应该改为 since，即 ：

 

• it was 3 years (since) I had graduated from the university. 

   

　　it 是指代时间的非人称代词，意思是直译是‘自从我大学毕业以来，时间已经过了三年’。

 

如果用 before，可以说——

 

• it had been 3 years before I graduated from the university，

 

　　但是意思成了“三年过去了，我才大学毕业（直译是‘在我大学毕业以前，时间已经过了三面’）”。

 

用 since，过去的“毕业时间” 早于 “三年过去”；用 before，“三年过去” 早于过去的“毕业时间”。

 

关于 since 的用法

 

1、如果主句说明的是现在的情况，主句用现在完成时态，从句用一般过去时态。如：

 

• We have both changed since we parted.  （从那时）分别以来我们（现在）彼此都变了。

   

2、如果主句说明的是过去的情况，主句用一般过去时态，从句用过去完成时态。如：

 

• We both changed since we had parted.  （从过去的过去）分别以来我们（那时）彼此都变了。

   

3、如果主句是表示时间的“ it + 系动词”结构，说明现在情况时，主句用 is，从句用一般过去时；说明过去情况时，主句用 was，从句用过去完成时。如：

 

• It is three years since we was there. 自从（过去）到那儿以来，（到现在）三年已经过去了。

• It was three years since we had been there.  自从（过去的过去）到那儿以来，（到那时）三年已经过去了。
