灯（拼音：dēng）为汉语一级通用规范汉字（常用字）。“灯”原作“镫”。古代的灯多为青铜制，上有盘，中有柱，下有底。

把“镫”的金旁改为火，就是灯，简化为灯。“镫”后来用作马镫的“镫（dèng）”。“灯”本义指照明工具，引申为除照明外的其他发光发热的装置。
