When it come to the method of teaching in the university, opinions may various among different people. Some people believe that students should be required to attend classes, while others point out that going to class should be optional for students. In my mind, both the statement goes too far for they are not so absolute as can be applied to every students.

Go to every class is the regular learning pattern we experience during the past time of our life. There are several reasons that we insist this kind of pattern. First of all, for some students, the learning efficiency is higher when he choose to go to class and follow the context than that when he learn by himself. However, we may need to realize is that go to every class is not a good pattern for every students. For instance, some students with high intelligence, are always ahead of the syllabus, as a consequence, it may be a waste of time and energy for him which he can put them into more difficult parts.

Now let's come to the later opinion about this topic that students should have the right to choose their classes. There is no doubt that in the university, the teaching pattern should be different from what we know as in the high school in order to culture the ability of self-learning of undergraduates. What's more, their inner interests in learning can be arouse if all the classes he go to is what he interested in. On one hand, every coin has two sides, that is to say, there are some disadvantages we need to take into account when we plan to carry this learning pattern out. First, the knowledge our students gain are not as systemic as what we master in the high students, we may only addicted to the a certain field and ignore the other parts of learning which we still need when we set foot to society. On the other hand, if students are allowed to choose the classes, how can we guarantee that all the students can complete their records before their graduation since not all students are self-discipline one.

As a result, the best way, the university may put into practice, is the compulsory and optional classes system. There should be some courses that every students should take, such as mathematics or English, should is the necessary tool for further learning and working. Some other subjects, such as arts, music, is what help us to increase our self-improvement can be choose according to the practical condition of every students. This method can not only make sure that students get basic skill they needs for surviving in the society as well as the personal speciality.

In sum, both the statement in the topic are not universal truth for that they are not suitable for every student. To confer some freedom to students to choose what they want to learn under the premise that they can finish the basic courses
