DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION
Gluco-Calcium may be given intramuscularly in 2-ml. to 5-ml.doses.When 5 ml.are administered,the dose should be injected in the gluteal region or , in infants in the lateral thigh.
The usual intravenous dose of Gluco-Calcium is from 5 to 20 ml.The usual precautions for intravenous therapy should be observed.The solution should be warmed to body temperature and administered slowly (2 ml. per minute).The injection should be halted if the patient complains of any discomfort; it may be resumed when symptoms disappear. Following injection , the patient should remain recumbent for a short time. Repeated injections may be required because of the rapid excretion of calcium.
During exchange transfusions in newborns,the usual dose is 0.5 ml.after every 100 ml. of blood exchanged.
HOW SUPPLIED
Gluco - Calcium is supplied in individual 30-ml.rubber-stoppered vials. Do not remove stopper.
