Like α, η affects only the quality of the user feedback and not the learning algorithm itself. Figure 3 shows the effect of varying the noise factor η. As seen in the figure, the algorithm is quite robust to noise. For high values of η, such as 0.2, we find that the algorithm is still able to learn quite well. The figures also indicate the expected α of the feedback received after adding noise. However, note that in this scenario, unlike the experiments varying α, the feed- back ranking can be significantly worse than the predicted ranking. Thus we see that for η = 0.2, although α ∼ 0.4 in expectation, the performance is noticeably worse than for the case of α = 0.4.
