1. 这里的after为介词，后面跟动名词短语。

2. 课文原句是let the current carry them to the other side.

   填空将其转为被动语态就是let themselves be carried by

3. 原句是the only sound that could be heard was made by water...

   No other ... than句型中than表示除了，意为“其它声音都听不到，只听到……”

   that是指代sound

       这里讲的通常吸引人们去地下深处探险的原因。讲的是一般性的状况用may表推测即可。would表推测可能性过大，而事实上并非下去探险就很有可能有unexpected discovery的。
