Tom comes from Australia and have been studying in Beijng for nearly 2 years.he really wants to be a volunteer for Beijing Olympic Games in 2008.he has the confidence to be an outstanding volunteer for the different posts,for he acquaint myself with the culture and history of Beijing,master the basic knowlege for Olympic Games professionally and have provided the volunteery service on the Sydeny Olympic Games.
On the basis of my practice on the Sydeny Olympic Games,he believes he can be a good volunteer in 2008!

Volunteering is of tremendous benefits to both those in need and society. Take the Wenchuan Earthquake as an example. Hundreds of thousands of volunteers play an active role in Wenchuan quake-hit areas. And they contribute daily necessaries, offer medical help and psychological help to the disaster relief work.

Besides, volunteering would be beneficial to the volunteers themselves~ Getting involved in volunteering, volunteers will be exposed to a new environment, and they can learn how to work well in a team, how to improve their interpersonal skills and organizational skills, all of which are critical for their professional growth.

As a college student, I sincerely hope that everyone would join the volunteering work. It is not only good to our society, but also a chance for us to grow and to learn.

Volunteers
Each nation has many good people who help to take care of others. For example, some high
school and college students in the United States often spend many hours as volunteers in hospitals, orphanages or homes for the aged. They read books to the peopie in these places,or they just visit them or listen to their problems. Other young volunteers go and work in the homes of people who are sick or old. They paint,clean up,or repair houses, do their shopping and mow their lawns. For boys who no longer have fathers there is an organization called Big Brothers. College students and other men take these boys to basketball games or on fishing trips and help them to get to know things that boys usually learn from their fathers.
Some cities have a number of clubs where boys and girls can go to play games or learn crafts. Some of these clubs show movies or organize short trips to the mountains,the beaches,museums or other places of interest. Most of these clubs use a lot of high school and college students as volunteers because they are young enough to remember the problems of younger boys and girls.
Volunteers believe that some of the happiest people in the world are those who help to bring happiness to others.

In most cases, volunteers show their value in an emergency. Especially when there are disasters, there are always some volunteers to come forward, and they are very timely to help everyone.
Of course, we can also see volunteers, but in most cases, we don't think they are particularly important, because they do some very routine work, such as publicity. I personally believe that the value of volunteering can only be realized at critical moments.
