Passage2Eversincehumanhaveinhabitedtheearth,theyhavemadeuseofvariousformsofcommunicat...
Passage 2
Ever since human have inhabited the earth, they have made use of various forms of communication. Generally, this expression of thoughts and feelings has been form of oral speech. When there is a language barrier, communication is accomplished through sign language in which motions stand for letter, words, and ideas. Tourists, the deaf, and the mute have had to resort to this form of expression. Many of these symbols of whole words are very picturesque and exact and can be used internationally: spelling, however, cannot.
Body language transmits ideas or thoughts by certain actions, either intentionally or unintentionally. A wink can be a way of flirting or indicating that the party is only joking. A nod signifies approved, while shaking the head indicates a negative reaction.
Other forms of nonlinguistic language can be found in Braille( a system of raised dots read with the fingerprints), signal flags, Morse code, and smoke signals. Road maps and picture signs also guide, warn and instruct people.
While verbalization is the most common form of language, other systems and technique also express human thoughts and feeling.
6. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A. Everybody uses only one form of communication
B. Nonlinguistic language is very useful to foreigners.
C. When a language is a barrier, people will find other forms of communication
D. Although other forms of communication exist, oral speech is the fattest.

A. make use of B. go to C. visit D. express

9. How many different forms of communication are mentioned in this passage?

6. B
D是文章第四句,"..., the deaf, and the mute have had to resort to this form of expression.",其中this form指的是前一句中的sigh language。
8. A
不看原文也知道,B,C,D都是通过视觉来传递信息的,怎么可能commonly used among blind people呢?
至于A,原文括号里提到a system of raised dots read with the fingertips,其实就是盲文,这种凸点是给盲人使用的。
9. C
oral speech(口语), spelling(拼写),sign language(手语),body language(肢体语言),Braille(盲文),signal flags(信号旗),Morse code(莫尔斯码),smoke signals(烽火信号),road maps(地图),picture sign(图片符号)。
Verbalization不算,因为verbalization = oral speech。
10. D
依据是"..., this expression of thoughts and feelings ... ..., communication is accomplished through sign language in which motions stand for ... and ideas. Many of these symbols of whole words are ...; spelling, however, cannot."
"many of these symbols of whole words"明确地指出whole words等同于these symbols,而these symbols又等同于motion, motion又等同于sign language。
"in which motions stand for ideas",which指代sign language,所以ideas可以包含在sign language里面。
spellings cannot后面省略的是"these symbols",这里的these指的是motion,而motion又和sign language等价。
