My family planned a trip to the beach on one summer. We were so excited that we had spent almost a week beforehand to prepare for the trip.
The day had come. The whole family squeezed into a compact car but we did not mind about our cramped backs and joints. We all sang so loud and happily that we lost our voices in the middle of the journey. Without a doubt, our creaking throat-singing was frightening for the remaining of the journey.
When we were almost there, we noticed we were the only car going in that direction on the highway, and every vehicle we saw seemed to be going in the other direction. Finally we got to a point where a military staff told us there was a huge swamp of locust coming eating up anything on the way so he sent us to the nearby shelter to evacuate. While the car was making the turn, I wondered if I would ever see that military guy again as I did not see a vehicle anywhere near the spot where he was signalling us.
We had to stay there for two days, eating off biscuit crumbs and rotten fruit and drinking buckets of lard. Clean water was limited for sure. The food was terrible and tasteless. I could not believe there were not even barbecue ribs and a can of soda.
After the swamp passed, we left for our condo on the beach. When we got there of course we had to go swimming in the ocean! We were in the water but we realised the water surface was covered with layers of dead insect bodies. We were so determined to have a swim that we swam with the insect corpses. I could not see what was in front of me but I kept crawling forward while trying hard breathing out bits of insects out of my mouth.
We were in the water about a metre deep and the next minute I was sucked under and was taken away by the waves. I could not swim with the six-feet tall waves crashing on my head, so I scram with every breath I could take. I swallowed numerous bits of dead insects in the process. The last thing I seemed to remember was the whole beach running towards me. Then I was out. I woke up laying on the beach with tons of people around me asking if I was ok.
For the rest of the trip, I stayed indoor while many other things happened on top of the everything I mentioned above, like my dad’s genital getting stung by a jellyfish, my sister getting stung at the backside by a crab, and the beach was full of dead locusts. It was definitely a vacation I will never forget!

The Culture of the United States is a Western culture, and has been developing since long before the United States became a country. Today the United States is a diverse and multi-cultural nation.
The types of food served at home vary greatly and depend upon the region of the country and the family's own cultural heritage. Recent immigrants tend to eat food similar to that of their country of origin, and Americanized versions of these cultural foods, such as American Chinese cuisine or Italian-American cuisine often eventually appear. German cuisine also had a profound impact on American cuisine, especially the mid-western cuisine, with potatoes and meat being the most iconic ingredients in both cuisines.[3] Dishes such as the hamburger, pot roast, baked ham and hot dogs are examples of American dishes derived from German cuisine
The primary, although not official, language of the United States is American English. According to the 2000 U.S. Census, more than 97% of Americans can speak English well, and for 81% it is the only language spoken at home. Nearly 30 million native speakers of Spanish also reside in the US. There are more than 300 languages besides English which can claim native speakers in the United States—some of which are spoken by the indigenous peoples (about 150 living languages) and others which were imported by immigrants. American Sign Language, used mainly by the deaf, is also native to the country. Hawaiian is also a language native to the United States, as it is indigenous nowhere else except in the state of Hawaii. Spanish is the second most common language in the United States, and is one of the official languages, and the most widely spoken, in the U.S. Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.
There are four major regional dialects in the United States: northeastern, south, inland north, and midwestern. The Midwestern accent (considered the "standard accent" in the United States, and analogous in some respects to the received pronunciation elsewhere in the English-speaking world) extends from what were once the "Middle Colonies" across the Midwest to the Pacific states.

I had read and heard about Hangzhou is a nice tourist spot. I went there during this summer holiday. I went to the famous West lake with my parents on one saturday. We climbed the LeiFeng tower and walked around the parks.. We also visited the underwater world of hangzhou. As it was on the weekend, the place was very crowded.
I like Hangzhou, I will go there again next year.
