5.1.5 Fire Fighting equipment
Fire hose and nozzle.
Fire fighting hose shall be 2½” lay-flat type. Hydrant hose connections shall be female
2½” round threaded fittings to suit the hydrant outlet. Fire hoses shall be supplied in 30m
lengths of 3 per hydrant. Hoses shall be constructed in high tenacity polyester yarn with
a high grade steam vulcanised synthetic rubber lining, fabricated to DIN 14811 & prEN
1924-1.
The hose nozzle shall incorporate a jet control/shut-off valve. Nozzles shall be 2½” inlet
and manufactured from Aluminium alloy with the tip in a polymide material.
Fire hose couplings and lay-flat hose shall be in accordance with BS 336 and BS EN
671-2, as supplied by:

Fire Equipment Cabinets
Fire fighting equipment shall be stored / located within designated permanent fire
fighting equipment cabinets unless otherwise directed. The requirements for the fire
fighting equipment cabinets are set as following;
The Contractor shall supply and install permanent cabinets for storage of all fire fighting
equipment (hose reels, nozzles, valves keys, hose wrenches and the like). An
equipment cabinet complete with the above fittings shall be installed adjacent to every
above ground hydrant. The equipment cabinets shall be sized 750 x 750 x 300mm and
constructed from 1.5mm hot dip mild steel galvanised sheet; red powder coated. A
break glass shall be provided to enable entry to the cabinet in addition to a key locked
entry facility. The cabinet shall include a central window (sized 260 x 260mm) to view
the contents, internal hose reel support pin, stand and base fabrications.
Each cabinet shall contain
• 3 hose lengths
• Hose wrench
• Valve wrench
• 3 hose nozzles
• 1 foam free extinguisher (as outlined in clause 5.4)
• 1 dry power fire extinguisher (as outlined in clause 5.4)
• 1 CO2 fire extinguisher (as outlined in clause 5.4)
