The construction and installation of controllers shall be such as to facilitate inspection,
maintenance, adjustment, repair and replacement of all components thereof. Auxiliary

• A manually operated isolating switch (switch disconnecter) requiring two-handed
operation.
• A circuit-breaker having a continuous current rating not less than 1.15 times motor
full load current and incorporating instantaneous short circuit overcurrent protection
only.
• An overcurrent protective device of the time delay type having a tripping time
between 8 and 20 seconds at motor locked rotor current and set at 3 times motor full
load current which shall trip the circuit breaker.
• Star-delta automatic changeover type electromagnetic motor starter with timer to
provide a motor acceleration period of up to 10 seconds.
• Internal lighting
The controller shall be provided with local indication of the availability of power and the
supply phase rotation at the supply side of the motor starter contactor. Facilities shall be
provided for remote indicating of either of these conditions and also for indicated that the
controller has operated into the pump start mode.
The controller shall be fully compatible with and interfaced with the diesel fire pump
controller associated jockey pump and anti-fouling controller(s) and with the Port
Security and Fire Alarm Management System to provide remote indication of pump
system status and alarms and to facilitate remote initiation of the fire pumps.
A wiring diagram shall be provided and permanently attached to the inside of the
controller enclosure showing the wiring of the controller and associated equipment. The
diagram shall include a legend identifying numbers of individual components. All
terminals shall be plainly marked to correspond with the wiring diagram, and
components labelled accordingly.
The controllers shall comprise a suite of electrical panels. The panels shall be located
on a concrete plinth to assist in precluding impact/mechanical damage and water
ingress.
