Thanksgiving was on the way, I could always count on the arrival of my son’s family who lived just an hour away. We( 1 ) had Thanksgiving dinner at my house. I was planning the menu as the rang( 2 ). It was Bruce’s wife, Elsa.
“We want you to be our ( 3 ) this year,” Elsa said. “It’s too much work for you, Mom. It’s time we started some of our own traditions.”
I was shocked, confused, and most of all,( 4 ) . Thanksgiving was always at my house.( 5 ) they didn’t want to continue my Thanksgiving traditions. “I just won’t come,” I said, and hung up.
In order not to think of it, I tried to make myself ( 6 ) with housework, but it was no use. Much as I ( 7 ) to admit it, Elsa had a point. I’d ( 8 )my own Thanksgiving traditions when I got married. I couldn’t very well ( 9 ) her for wanting to do the same.
With everything in my car on Thanksgiving morning, I started off to Bruce’s house.
At the house my son’s family pulled me inside. Elsa and Bruce turned to go back into the kitchen. I helped them ( 10 ) the food. Then all three of us went out into the living room where the kids were. I told ( 11 ) about their Dad when he was little that I’d ( 12 ) a hundred times, but somehow now they were funnier than ever. When everything was ready we gathered in the dining room for the holiday meal.
