福建土楼有记录最早是在宋元代，在明末、清代和民国时期兴建土楼盛行，解放初期仍有兴建的。土楼基础及下部分以砌石为主，上部分土墙以生土为主要原料，分层交错夯筑，配上竹木作筋牵拉，墙体一般有1至2米厚。土楼一般以圆形、方形为主，还有八角形、半圆形、椭圆形等，各具特色。现存的土楼中，以圆形的最引人注目，当地人称之为圆楼或圆寨。

Tulou is a famous brand of Fujian tourism

The earliest records of tulou in Fujian were in the Song and Yuan Dynasties. The construction of tulou prevailed in the late Ming Dynasty, Qing Dynasty and the Republic of China, and some were still built in the early days of liberation. The foundation and lower part of the earth building are mainly composed of masonry, while the upper part of the earth wall is composed of raw earth as the main raw material. The walls are generally 1 to 2 meters thick and are rammed in layers and staggered with bamboo and wood as the pulling bars. The earth buildings are generally round and square, octagonal, semicircle and oval, each with its own characteristics. Among the existing tulou, the most striking are the round ones, which are known locally as the yuanlou or yuanzhai.
