Carefully reading the first sentence in each paragraph（主语） 其中 carefully 作动名词 reading 的方式状语， the first sentence作reading的宾语，介词短语in each paragraph作reading的地点状语（翻译成：在每一段认真地读第一句），或把这里的in each paragraph看作是前面名词sentence的后置定语（翻译成：认真地读每一段的第一句话） 整体为“谓宾”结构的动名词短语作整句话主语。can activate（本句话真正的谓语动词） your own knowledge of the topic（宾语）其中 of the topic 是作your own knowledge的后置定语。接下来and 连接了一个并列谓语 help，后面的you为宾语，guess what the whole text is about（整体作you的宾语补足语,）其中后面的what the whole text is about 为前面省略的不定式(to) guess的宾语（从句），guess的宾语从句中其中the whole text（为主语），is（系动词），about what（介词短语作表语）
