In July 2001, the news said our capital, Beijing, is going to host the 2008 Olympic Games. When I heard the news, I was amazed and excited. I couldn’t believe it. But it was true.

I am really proud of my great motherland, China! As a student, what can I do for the Beijing Olympics

My mom gave me a lot of advice. She said to me: “Susan, I think you can be a good volunteer at the 2008 Olympic Games. You can help the people who can’t speak Mandarin.”

I said to my mom: “Mom, what should I do to be a great volunteer”

My mom said to me with a smile: “If you want to go to Beijing during the games, you must practice your pronunciation every day. Next, you must be a polite girl. Maybe you can make friends with many foreign people.”

Mom’s words encouraged me a lot. To realize my dream, from now on, I must study hard to improve my English. Next, I have to grasp some knowledge of sports, which I think will be very important for an Olympic volunteer.
