雅思小作文中的两句话，我有四个问题，求指点！谢谢您的回答， 一有满意答案就采纳！

第一句National and international fixed line calls grew steadily from 38 billion minutes to 62 billion at the end of theperiod in question, though the growth slowed over the last two years.
问题1：最后半句话能不能用slowed down呢？

第二句To sum up, although local fixed line calls were still the most popular in 2002, the gap between the three categories had narrowed considerably over the second half of the period in question.
问题2：local fixed line calls 前面已经提到过了， 在这里需要加the吗(原文没加)？
问题3：原文用的是the gap between，我觉得这里应该是the gaps among the three categories, 哪种用法更好呢？
问题4：Had narrowed 可不可以是had been narrowed呢？

1：最后半句话可以用slowed down，不加也没问题。
2：仅看你贴上了句子，没有提到local fixed line calls。 前面已经提到过的是National and international fixed line calls 。如果在别处已经提到，在这里应该加定冠词the。
3：本人认为如果要在语言逻辑上更准确，应该用the gap in between。among the three categories, 用法模糊，没有明确是“两两相比”。
4：不但可以是，而且应该是had been narrowed。

针对第三个问题， 我还有一点小疑问， 我现在能理解为什么要用between，但为什么不是gaps呢？

严格讲，应该用gaps。但作者可能认为，这几个gaps在性质上并无区别，对说明句子的中心意思也无影响。
另外，在the most popular 后面应该有个名词才对，是否落掉了？
