Abstract: Colour that’s correlative with human-being’s life is a significant field for people to know the world. It is not only physical property, but also covers abundant cultural connotation. Therefore, it is a hot subject in the research of language, culture and translation. There are various expressions to describe the different colours among different countries. The basic colours have little difference in English and Chinese. The original colours share the same quality, but the distinction still exists. In this paper we’ll briefly make a comparison on several main colour words between Chinese and English.
