The calendar of today still mark Sundays as the beginning of a week, but more and more people are taking Monday as the first day.Because the weekend is made up of Saturday and Sunday,so they are the two days that people could be free from work.
SOthroughout the years,people are changing the idea that Sundays atraditionally thought as the beginning of the week .In American history,it is until 1920s that people could have one and a half days off from their jobs.Before that,people still have to work for 6 daysa week.When the great depression happened in 1930s, the situation of unemployment is serious, so the weekend expanded to 2 days,From Monday to Friday ,they work 8 hours each day.However, recent years,the increasing use of automation means there is not so much work for people as before, some people said the weekend may be expanded to 3 days or even more
