Liberal education means a wide range of education that empowers individuals with broad knowledge and transferable skills, and a stronger sense of values, ethics, and civic engagement. Those are the classes that a student must take before he/she declares his/her major at a college or university. It is defined by the Association of American Colleges and Universities (AACU).
In the U.S. and many western countries, students entering universities or colleges do not choose their majors upon entering the schools. Instead, they take a variety of classes that expand their overall knowledge for the first two years of college. These classes are called liberal education.
