通常来讲，用的最多的应该是“动词+介词“的固定搭配用法，比如：

abound in 充满/丰富（尤其指人生的机遇）

Modernization in China abounds in opportunities for those with imagination and innovative ideas.

The cities abound in wild adventures for those newcomers.

account for 占…比例; 解释/说明

account to 解释/说明；负责任

You have to account to me if anything happens to our mother while she is under your care.

adapt for 修改（modify）; 重新整理 ( rearrange）; 改写( rewrite）

The author is going to adapt his play for television.

It is not surprising that this novel, the best seller for threeweeks, has been adapted for the cinema.

adapt to 修改/重新整理 (用法类似adapt for). 与adapt for不同的是 adapt to 没有”改写“的意思；另外，在指人的时候，通常用 adapt oneself to表达”适应/习惯“的意思。

We have to adapt the building to the needs of thehandicapped people.
I don't think I shall ever adapt myself to this hot climate.

arrive in 到达一个地方（大面积的）

I arrived in Shanghai around 9 last night.

我昨晚约9点抵达上海的。

arrive at 到达一个地点 (强调一个“点”)

I arrived at the Shanghai Pudong International Airport around 9pm yesterday. 我昨晚约9点抵达上海浦东国际机场的。

back away, back off, back down *虽然都包含着：“走开“，“离去”的意思，但在用法上还是有区别的。

away*

通常指”离得远远的,” 尤其是人在遇到危险的事情

When the suspect reached for his knife, the onlookers backed away.

off*

back off 有两种意思，一种是back down 的同义（见back down),

另一种意思是“少许离开一些，” 尤其是指车辆

The car behind is too close to us. Wave the driver to back off.

down*

back away/off指的是行动上的“离开,” 而back down则指的是语言/态度上的“退让”

After being confronted with our evidence, the other side backed

down.
