In the early 1990’s, Hilton Hotels moved its focus heavily into the gambling industry in response to two major take-over attempts. While gambling indeed generated the bulk of the income in the early 1990’s, in 1994 the gaming industry slowed significantly while the hotel industry continued to prosper. The industry response was to shift into providing/packaging entertainment and gaming to form destination resorts to attract more customers (Kotler, Hilton case). With all these changes in such a short span of time, Hilton faces several significant challenges. It must refocus the company to strike a balance between its gaming and hotel branches.
