“龙”（dragon）在西方是贬义词，是邪恶的象征。在英美的很多词典中，对dragon的定义是：一种想象中的特别凶残的动物，像只巨大的蜥蜴，长着翅膀和利爪，拖着一条长长的蛇尾，嘴能喷火。在圣经故事中，dragon是罪恶的化身，人们把与上帝（the God）作对的恶魔撒旦（Satan）称为“大龙”（the great dragon），基督圣徒还把杀死龙作为荣耀，引以为豪。

In Western, the word dragon always stand for the symbol of devil.
