其实仔细想下就可知道答案..
第1题目：
如果选A的话..surpringly是副词..
要用副词,They found后面一定要有宾语..
如果是They found it surpringly..那就对了..
这里用to their surprise..
你可以判断下句子的成分..
其实句子就是To their surprise, They found that the goddess turned out to be..
这里只不过是把To their surprise放在了Found后面而已，所以是对的..

第2题：
你选D对吧..had been gazing at 是过去完成时态..而且还是一个被动语态..你不觉得可笑吗.
gaze是凝视的意思..He是主语..说明这里是用主动语态嘛..而且had been gazing at这短语又错了..Had been 后面一定要接DONE ..had been gazed at才对..真的错漏百出..
再分析..如果这里用过去完成时..但是这里gazed是瞬间动词嘛..不是强调那个动作对现在是否有影响..只是强调那时一瞬间的动作..不需要用完成时..完成时通常是持续性动词才可以用嘛..而且是对现在有影响的..所以这里用过去时..gazed at就可以了..

第3题：
你选C..好...While this going on是一个持续性短语..翻译成当这件事正在发生的时候..As it happened里的happen是强调瞬间发生的..所以不对..
而Meanwhile 有同时的意思..其实这里是In the meanwhile..有持续性的意思..

这还真是有点难度哈，我只知道第一题，希望能对你有帮助。
to one's surprise 意思是：令某人惊奇的是。这句话的主语是They，所以要用相对应的代词their ，所以就选C to their surprise
其他的还真是无能为力了，抱歉
