I am glad to receive your letter.
I want to congratulate you on entering the university you have been fancied for so long, and regarding the question of choosing major, it is more of an individual choice. However, I pondered it for a while and feel obliged to provide you a few tips as your close friend.
Since you are now enrolled in the faculty of art and social science, I would highly recommend you major in English, ideally as your first major or at least a primary one. The rationale of this choice is simple, in the world of art and social study, language study is the most practical and least academic choice as far as I am aware. And amongst all second languages, English is the predominant language of the world and well known for its broad application. In comparison with your peers major in different language, you will have much better career opportunities and a lot brighter prospects in terms of graduates jobs. And plus it can give you plenty of opportunities to travel overseas and we would have more time to hang out together.
