The opportunity to receive higher education is a privilege that brings with it responsibilities. And the development of society and the advancement of nation owe much to the quality of higher education. But today many problems on higher education come out.
First of all, it is the enrollment expansion of high schools. Although it can make more people attend university, but it brings more troubles to the society and country. On the one hand, the society can’t afford enough jobs to the graduates, making them become jobless, on the other hand, the university don’t have enough resources for their students, such as laboratories, classrooms, good teachers and so on, leading that the students are not acquired as much as their formers, let alone more than them. What’s more, students are required to specialize in either science or arts courses when they reached at the second grade at senior high school. The courses of science and arts are very different, even have nothing in common. The result is that students are good at what they are major in, but know nothing about the others, so they are not as clear as a bell. It is failure of higher education a certain extent. In addition, the courses in higher education are only bookish and ivory-towered at most, so student are not acquired with the ability to act, so they have to study new things totally when they go to the position, and can’t make use of what they have learnt.
In order to improve the quality of higher education, something must be done to solve the problems above. First, the rate of teaching resources increasing should keep up with that of students, so the students can get enough teaching resources. And then encourage more graduates to get master degree, even doctor degree. So the graduates who need job will decrease. What will be the next? How to provide enough jobs for master graduates? The answer is the quality of the whole country will elevate, and illiteracies will disappear, middle and high middle school graduates will do what illiteracies do, bachelor graduates will do what middle and high middle school graduates do. So do to master and doctor graduates. In addition, the institution of higher education should provide a few courses which they are not major in, so students can be good at what they are major in, and well know something in other field. At last, in my opinion, university should have their own factory where students can practice.
In a word, if the problems above are solved, the quality of higher education will become higher.
