社会医学：社会医学是一门医学和社会科学相结合的边缘学科。它主要研究社会因素和健康之间相互作用及其规律，以制定社会保障措施，保护和增进人群的身心健康。健康教育和健康促进借鉴社会医学研究医学问题时所侧重的战略性、理论性、方向性和思维观念，从社会学角度研究和分析人群的主要健康问题，制定宏观与微观结合的不同层次的干预措施，提高人群的生活质量。

In contemporary usage social medicine has two meanings, one broad and ill-defined,the other more restricted and precise.

In the broad sense, social medicine is an expression of the humanitarian tradition in medicine, and people frequently read into it any interpretation consistent with their own experience and interests.Thus it may be identified with human care of patients, prevention of disease, health education, the work of local health authorities, finance of medical services; indeed with almost any subject in the extensive field of health and welfare.

In the more restricted sense in which we shall be using the term, social medicine is concerned with a body knowledge and methods of obtaining knowledge appropriate to a discipline.This discipline may be said to comprise epidemiology and the study of the medical needs of society.
