What do you want most in a friend — someone who is intelligent, or someone who has a sense of humor, or someone who is reliable? Which one of these characteristics is most important to you? Use reasons and specific examples to explain your choice.
你最喜欢朋友的什么特点——才智，幽默， 可靠？哪个对你最重要？

I appreciate all three characteristics in my friends. An intelligent friend can provide solutions to difficult questions, through communicating with him you can learn much knowledge you don’t know. And a friend who has a sense of humor is always the origin of happiness, it is a kind of enjoyment to talk with him. In my opinion, I prefer a friend who is reliable most. The choice is made depending on my own experience in the university.

When I was a freshman, I once organized a group including three of my classmates to prepare for the advanced mathematic test, which is one of the most difficult courses together. One of the members in our group was the monitor in my class. He is a very intelligent student with wide scope of knowledge, and often gets the highest scores in the tests. However, his schedule is too tight. The limited spare time of his was spent on his own study. So he hardly attended our group discussion.

Other member is a humorous student. Contrast to my monitor, he is seldom absent in the group discussion. He brought us much joy during the dull period. It really released our pressure and made us relaxed. But he contributes almost nothing to our study, because he always talked about jokes instead of advanced mathematic test. In fact, he disturbed others’ study.

Richard was a reliable man in our group. He took part in all the group discussions and shared many useful advanced mathematic test skills with us. Though he was neither intelligent, couldn’t solve some difficult questions immediately, nor humorous, lacked a sense of humor, he helped my study a lot. We often did exercises, discussed the answers to questions and cheered up each other in the unbearable period. As you sow, so will you reap, Richard and I both got high scores in the advanced mathematics test. He also became my best friend.

Although I agree that intelligence and a sense of humor are important characteristics for a friend, a reliable friend is priceless.
