Therefore, the gas separation process with MDEA is far more stable with no spurious plant shutdowns over longer periods. The use of different amines (primary, secondary, and tertiary) depends upon the composition of H2S and CO2 in the acid gas. Depending upon the acid gas composition the primary, secondary, and tertiary amines are used at different stages/units to cope with the problem. The interest in the use of mixed amine systems in gas treating processes also is increasing nowadays. The mixed amine system, which combines the higher equilibrium capacity of the tertiary amine with the higher reaction rate of the primary and secondary amine, may improve considerably the absorption of CO2 provide great savings in the regeneration energy requirement [8,9].
