表示距离：从近到远：beside> next to。

例句：We sat next to each other.  

我们紧挨着坐在一起。

He sat beside her all night.  

整个晚上他都坐在她的身边。

2、用法不同

next to是指下一个紧接着的物体

例句：She sat down next to him on the sofa. 

她紧挨着他在沙发上坐下了。

beside是在什么物体的旁边

例句：On the table beside an empty plate was a pile of books. 

桌上空盘子的旁边是一堆书。

3、读音不同

next to  英 [nekst tu:]   美 [nɛkst tu]

by, beside, near和next to
1) by和beside均表示“在……旁边”，常可换用
