in the way 和 on the way 都是介词短语，在句子中都可作状语，定语或表语。但在意思上不同，in the way 妨碍，挡道，妨碍某人。例如：“We won't get in the way，”she promised. （她保证说，“我们不会妨碍你的。”）You are in my way. （ 你挡了我的路。）

on the way 在......途中，在路上，即将到来。 例如：The weather forecasters say more storm is on the way. （天气预报员说不久还将有更多暴风雨。）

a) arriving or happening soon(即将到达或发生):

She should be on the way here by now.她现在应该在来这儿的路上了。
The ships were already on their way to the gulf.

c) while going from one place to another(在从一个地方去另一个地方的途中)on the/one's/its way to/out/home etc
I ran out of gas on my way to the airport.
