CHINESE urbanites of all ages are getting their hands dirty-on virtual farms.
As many as 80 million Chinese-about 20 percent of the country's online population- are playing the online social game Happy Farm. These virtual "farmers" plant seed, reap harvests and - when the neighbors aren't looking -poach resources.

Pi Jiangfan, a student at Southwest Jiaotong University, reportedly recruited some classmates to help him plant a garden behind the school cafeteria. He realized they had been wasting too much time nururing virtual crops on Happy Farm.
"As soon as woke up in the morning, some students were immediately turning on their computers to plant vegetables," Pi said, according to reports. "From now on , we will only spend time on our real farm ."
