Some people think that studying in a college or university is the best way for students to prepare for their future career. But others think they should leave school as soon as possible to develop their career through work experience. Discuss both these views and give your opinion.
While some people claim that the best way for students to get prepared for their future career is to study in a college or university, others argue that students should leave school as soon as they can to build their career through years of working. In my opinion, both of the arguments make sense to a certain extent.
On the one hand, a college life is of crucial importance for students to get a good preparation for their future career in various aspects. First of all, college students usually choose their major which may equip themselves with knowledge related to their interests and occupation intention. What’s more, a college life provides a student with a platform of enlarging his social circle, which will set the foundation of his social networks in the career life years later. Further more, in a sense of human development, rather than studying, going to college is more about an experience, through which students obtain various skills such as interpersonal communication, time management, and creative thinking, by taking part in many forms of both academic and social activities.
On the other hand, work experience plays an important part in the career development for students too. A good example in case is that employers now put a stronger emphasis on work experience rather than diploma. Moreover, the knowledge students acquired in college does not necessarily apply to real working conditions, because any theory gained through study must be examined in real practice. Further more, according to a recent survey conducted by a group of scholars of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, graduates who have several years’ work experience tend to be promoted sooner in the first year, compared with their contemporaries who are new to the workplace.
Given the above discussion, both college study and work experience can significantly influence student’s future career development. Personally, I think it’s quite advisable for students to decide whether to study at college or go to work on the basis of their specific situation. 展开
