Dear Kim,
Thank you for your letter, which I received last week. My family is getting ready for Christmas now. I love this time of year.
Christmas in Australia is just like Christmas in lots of other countries in the world. We have Santa, and Christmas carols, and lots of people go to church. But, most of all, it is a time when families come together. People send Christmas cards, visit each other and give each other gifts. It is especially exciting for children. Some little children still believe in Santa Claus and write letters to him, telling him what presents they want. They think he comes down the chimney (烟囱）to leave presents for them. I used to believe this when I was really young, but now I know that it’s the grown-ups who buy the presents and leave them under the Christmas trees.
Christmas here has one big difference from that in other countries. It is hot. Sometimes it is 40℃ in Sydney. But Santa still wears warm red clothes and has a big white beard. Because the weather is warm, our family usually have a barbecue outside. All my uncles and aunts and cousins bring some food and drinks with them, and we have a big party.
On Christmas morning, we give presents to each other. This year I got a new CD player and some CDs.

My relatives （亲戚）gave me presents, too. Some of them gave me money because they didn’t know what to buy for a fourteen-year-old boy. I got enough money for an aquarium （水族馆）and some pet fish. There was some money left and Mom told me to put it in the bank.
