Kevin Michael Connolly, who once insisted he didn't want to be an inspirational guy, got a hero's welcome Wednesday night at Montana State University from thousands of people amazed by his life story and indomitable spirit.
Connolly, a 2008 MSU graduate, was born without legs. Yet the Helena native still won skiing medals and traveled the world by himself with his skateboard, his camera and don't-quit determination, as chronicled in his 2009 book, "Double Take."
The book was chosen as this year's One Book One Bozeman community reading, and Connolly was chosen by MSU as the speaker for Wednesday's Freshman Convocation. An estimated 3,000 students, university staff and community members packed the fieldhouse to hear him.
Connolly, who just turned 25, called himself "an old codger." He told self-deprecating anecdotes from his adventures and offered freshmen advice that was sometimes sage and at other times silly.
"Accept failure," Connolly told the freshmen, while showing a photograph of his bloody face the day he broke his jaw skiing in a blizzard. Failure is always temporary, he said, and it will teach you a lot more than success.
Connolly read a passage from his book explaining that "I don't think of myself as disabled.'" If an able-bodied person is too afraid to take a risk and just sits on the sidelines, that's a kind of self-imposed disability, he said. Being disabled is a matter of choice.
"Suck it up," he said. "Don't be afraid of failing. Just commit, and hopefully, everything works out."
Connolly advised students to "become a masochist" and learn to get the most out of things that are tiresome or painful. He said when he arrived in New Zealand as a study-abroad student, with no friends and his jaw wired shut from his skiing accident, he spent a night crying into his pillow.
Yet that year in New Zealand turned out to be a great time of personal growth, partly because of its "miserability," he said.
"Everybody has their little disabilities that trip them up," he said.
On the more humorous side, Connolly advised freshmen to use the word "juxtapose" in their papers,UGG Kids Boots, because "professors love it." When zooming to Bridger Bowl on a fresh powder day, he said, don't pass three cars at once. UGG boots, he warned, don't offer any traction in the snow. And, he said, "Wear a helmet."
Connolly said he considers Bozeman "my home," so he asked students to treat it well.
At the end, the audience stood to applaud and cheer for Connolly.
"He's amazing," freshman Stefanie Herrera, 19, said afterward.
"He's so open, down to earth," said Anna Weber, 18, also from Helena.
"He's very inspirational," said Cole Schaefer, 19,discount designer handbags, from Power. "All the hardships he's been through. It makes you want to work that much harder."
Deirdre Combs, who teaches an MSU leadership course, said Connolly was one of the best teaching assistants she ever had.
Combs said Connolly is now working on a new venture, to improve prosthetics for people with injured or missing limbs.
"That's the kind of leadership he's modeling for MSU students," she said. "I'm beyond excited."
MSU President Waded Cruzado echoed Connolly's advice, telling freshmen that they,Ugg Sundance II Boots, too, can be the authors and heroes of their own stories.
"Don't quit. Persevere," Cruzado said. "The only difference between a stepping stone and a stumbling block is the way it is used."
She praised Connolly's parents, Brian and Marie, for the gracious and courageous way they raised their son, and they were warmly applauded.
"He's a pretty insightful kid," his dad said after the speech. "He's got a good head on his shoulders."
"It's been an interesting ride, watching him evolve," his mom said. "We're both very, very proud of him."

2.把长方体展开,两点之间直线最短,拿纸折一个,你立马清楚,哈。

对于第一题来说你用几何全等证明 好答:但如果用你的式子来说的话解得X=8 是错解!勾股定理得25!
