隋书 牛弘传的翻译

经籍所兴，由来尚矣。爻书肇於庖义，文字生於仓颉，圣人所以弘宣教导，博通古今，扬于王庭，肆於时夏。故尧称至圣，犹考古道而言，舜其大智，尚观古人之象。《周官》，外史掌三皇五帝之书及四方之志。武王问黄帝、颛顼之道，太公曰：“在《丹书》。”是知握符御历，有国有家者，曷尝不以《诗》、《书》而为教，因礼乐而成功也。

译文：

牛弘性格宽容厚道，总是专心致志地学习，即使职务繁杂，（但）书 从来不离手。牛弘的弟弟牛弼，喜好喝酒甚至酗(没有节制地喝酒）酒，曾经酒醉中射杀牛弘驾的车前的牛。牛弘回家，他妻子迎接他说：“小叔子射杀了你的牛。”

牛弘听说了这件事，一点也不感到奇怪，也不追问，只说：“做成牛肉干。”（牛弘）坐定了，他妻子又说：“小叔子突然射杀牛。（我认为）是件非常异常的事。”牛弘说：“（我）已经知道了。”（牛弘）脸上神色自若，依然不停读书。

牛弘性宽厚，笃志于学，虽职务繁杂，书不释手。弟弼，好酒而酗，尝醉射杀弘驾车牛。弘还宅，其妻迎谓曰：“叔射杀牛。”弘闻，无所怪问，直答曰：“作脯。”坐定，其妻又曰：“叔忽射杀牛，大是异事。”弘曰：“已知。”颜色自若，读书不辍。

创作背景

任人唯贤的隋吏部尚书牛弘，字里仁(545—610)，隋安定鹑觚人。先祖为避祸改姓辽，祖父辽炽，在郡中为“中正”官，父亲辽允，为后魏侍中，赐姓牛。牛弘年轻时，性情宽厚，好学博闻，隋开皇二年(582)，授散骑常侍，秘书监，收集典籍，不遗余力，三年拜礼部尚书，奉诏撰修五礼，写成百卷，行于当世。

开皇六年(586)，牛弘以其丰富的智慧、卓越的才能“改定雅乐”、“设立明堂”，受到皇上的器重和赞许。不久授大将军，官拜吏部尚书。在其任职期间，任人唯贤，“其选举，先德行而后文才，，务在审慎”。因此“所有进用，多称职”，朝野上下，为之佩服。隋炀帝继位后，赐弘以诗，赞扬之美，无书其右者。
