despite （prep） = in spite of （prep）他俩都是介词性质的。后面都只能接短语或单词与 because of 一个性质。
除非 despite the fact that 加句子。 although = though 都可以加句子，因为他们都是连词，连词引从句。都可以翻译成 尽管。很像的 even though 多翻译成 即使，不翻译成 尽管。

正：Despite he being busy he came to the station to meetus.

析：despite(尽管)是介词，不是连词，所以不能用来引导句子，若其后要跟 that 从句，需插入 the fact。
◆尽管有病，他还是来开会了。
误：He came to the meeting despite of his illness.
正：He came to the meeting in spite of his illness.
析：despite(尽管)本身是介词，注意不要受 in spite of(尽管)的影响，而误用 despite of(偶尔可见此用法，但因多数语言 学家反对这一用法，建议学生避免使用)。
