<<阿拉比》讲述的是一个都柏林小男孩对朋友曼根的姐姐产生了朦胧爱慕之情，最后破灭的故事。作品中的“我”是一个天真无邪，正在成长中的孩子，住在一条名叫“北理奇蒙得”的“死胡同”里。每天在和同伴玩耍时注视曼根姐姐出来叫弟弟吃饭的样子。或者在自家前厅等待她出现后默默紧随其后。出于对朦胧爱情和对理想本能的追求，他渴望在“阿拉比”市场为自己心目中的姑娘买件礼物。当他左思右盼的星期六终于来到时，早先答应给他钱的叔叔却迟迟不归。随后又因火车耽误了时间…… 最后，他好不容易进了集市，此刻，大厅里已是黑灯瞎火，一片昏暗丑陋，和他想象的完全不同。之后他终于走向一个卖陶瓷花瓶和茶具的摊贩前，女店主又因忙着和两位英国绅士调情，而忽略对小男孩的招呼。他觉得自己的美好理想受到了虚荣心无情的嘲弄，最后陷入了深深的痛苦和愤怒。

The novel Araby tell us a tragic story about a little boy falling in love with his friend's sister but finally with no results. In the novel, "I",a innocent and naive child waiting to grow up, lived in a blind alley called "北理奇蒙得". Every day when he played with his partners, he kept his eyes on Mangen's elder sister who called Mangen to dine. Or else, "I" would like to wait for her in the enteroom at home and follow her closely after her appearance. Out of his instinctive pursuit of vague love and dream,the boy longed for buying a present for his beloved girl in the market Araby. Satauday, which he had been waiting for so eagerly, finally came. However, his uncle who promised to give him money was delayed in coming home. Later, the boy was also delayed in the train station... He finally came into the market which was already in the dark beyond his imagination. Later, he walked towards a tradeswoman who sold pottery and porcelain vase and tea set. Unfortunately, the woman was flurting with two English gentlemen and therefore neglected the boy's existence. He thought his beautiful dream was derided unmercifully by the woman's vanity and finally fell into deep pain and anger.
