Long time ago, Chinese paid more attention to other developing countries’ education. Chinese have found many weak points in our education. I think Chinese Education has big changes last 5 years, they know the foreign education is more advanced so they learn and tend to become advanced. People always say, oh, Chinese education is spoon-fed. It is not correct now. Chinese teachers are always improving their level of teaching. More and more teachers want to set up the image of humour and know a lot. Some of the teachers could catch the eyes of students. They lead students to find the right answer step by step.
Many people think that College Entrance Examination System has destroyed teenagers’ creation, and decreased their interests in study. They think western countries’ people are more creative and active than us because of a special and opening education system.
After reading much information about education in China and UK, I think the most difference is Elementary Education. The pre-education makes great difference between these two countries. Firstly, the Chinese education is "nine year compulsory education". Most of schools are public schools. And the tuitions come from the government. And the British education is also compulsory education .But the school system is two-track system which included the public school and the private school. And the tuitions are free in the public school while those come from the students' parents in the private school.
I try to do the math questions that students did, but I cannot because they were too hard. Well, I was at the same level with them six months ago; I could solve difficult math or physics problems in junior high school. But I still think I got a lot, not only the improvement in English, but also have the ability to ask why. Under the pure English environment, I find it is rapidly to learn English. Maybe the reason is if you do not learn, you cannot understand what the teachers say. That felt really bad.
Secondly, the Chinese schools only have some subjects, such as Chinese, math, English, history, physics and so on. The Chinese students must study these subjects every day. And they must work hard that they hardly have spare time. Also the difference is in homework. They have a lot of homework that I cannot image. The spare time is occupied by the homework, homework, homework. In our school, we get a little inflexible homework like papers. The most homework is pre-read the class we would take tomorrow or read some articles you like. This kind of homework suits conscious students. Because of this, we have a lot of time to do some sports and take part of clubs. The same situation in Britain, the students have chances to choose an elective course to expand their knowledge and visions .And they have much more spare time to play than Chinese students.
Finally, the Chinese educational system is very simple. Most of students have to pass the college entrance examination. And then they can go to college to study a major. But in Britain, the students have many choices to study. There are many technology schools. Every body can enter without certification and limited age.
Although there are many differences between the Chinese education and the British education, they have some advantages and disadvantages in some aspects.
I often think of the Chinese primary school education, and those kids sitting straight with their hands in their back. We tend to educate pupil to be a good child. They have to behave themselves seriously. And they should be versatile, so parents will send them for many kinds of interest class. Many Chinese parents want their children to be great people. Chinese pupils are expected more. They are the future of country. All in all, they are very hard working.
In Britain, the primary school is just the same as kindergarten in China. There are no fixed desks and chairs in classroom. And there is a little blackboard in the corner. Teacher sits behind it and gives lessons, and pupils sit around their teacher. They don’t need a book. The most surprising is that the primary-school curriculum consisted of Chinese, mathematics, physical education, music, drawing, and elementary instruction in nature, history, and geography, combined with practical work experiences around the school compound. It’s the same as in China. And they also can get high marks in the relaxing study atmosphere.
Why? In my opinion, children can adjust the changing from kindergarten to primary school. They can’t accept the fixed and serious pattern in teaching immediately. The strange environment will affect children’s abilities to know more knowledge. So British primary schools prefer to relaxing teaching environment, and progressively become to the serious pattern. Then it will not decrease children’ interest in study. We can make it for sure that both countries want to educate more capable person to build up t heir countries. They do many things in order to help children lead a happy and colorful life. The difference is the way to achieve that target. China has so many people that we need to focus principles and behave ourselves. And UK is an opening country. They prefer freedom and independence. So they will give more room for people to develop their own personalities.
Chinese school divided into many levels and I went to a selective school and an ordinary school. The students in selective school have good behaviour and mental outlook. In the ordinary school, the students were very vigour after class but feel sleepy in the class. The deepest difference is English. The pronunciation, intonation and succession reading are not at same level. In commonly, the students from the schools are all gracious.
We should know more about other kinds of education. Then we can learn from it and improve our education. Don’t just follow other’s steps. We ought to accept the points that can benefit us. And develop a suitable kind of education for our students. I think we will achieve it. Just do it.
