Those who are in favor of the idea of reading selectively believe that it is not how much one reads but what he reads that really counts. As living in an age when much time has to be taken up by work and other activities, people are unable to find enough time to read extensively even if they intend to.
However, those who insist on reading extensively argue that it is through reading extensively that we obtain most of our knowledge. Now branches of knowledge diverge into each other rather than are isolated from each other.
In my opinion, we should read both selectively and extensively. We should select the books which are useful for our purposes. And we should broaden our knowledge by reading extensively.

College English is a necessary subject for college students. If one wants to pass the CET-4 or 6, one has to learn this one very well. By the way, if we can master the langurage well, we will make good use of it in finding a job in the future, for the English proficiency is an important skill to measure a talent.
But how to learn it well? Maybe didfferent students have different ways. In my opinion, only counting on the classroom study, it's far from being enough. We can enlarge our reading amount, and try to read some newspapers like the Twenty-first Century or magazines like Crazy Enlish to get to know more about the usage about the language, meanwhile, we can practise our oral English with some native speakers. In addition to that, we have to do more listening practice, becauase listening ability is also vital for improving our language capacity.
To sum up, college English is hard to master, but if we can find the right ways and arrange our time efficiently, I think we must be able to learn it well.
