The traditional way in which Chinese people treat their guests involves providing a variety of dishes that cannot be finished by the guests. The typical menu for a feast involves a set of cold dishes as well as hot dishes including meat, duck, chicken, and vegetables that come afterwards. During most feasts, a whole fish is considered to be indispensable, except if all kinds of seafood has already been served. Nowadays, Chinese people like to integrate traditional Western food with traditional Chinese food into one feast. Therefore, it is not uncommon for steak to be served. Salad has also gotten popular, despite that traditionally, Chinese people normally don’t eat any uncooked meals. The feast often involves at least one soup, served at either the start or the end. Desert and fruits often signal the end of the feast.
